Bing vs. Google

I was driving this afternoon with my radio tuned to NPR (of course!) when I happened to catch this story about Bing vs. Google. I must admit, I have only used Bing once, so when I heard about this person who was going to only use Bing for a week, I was intrigued. As you know, I am a Google fan and I would have a hard time leaving my favorite search engine for another. [...]

New “Diigo + Google” Search Box

Earlier this month, the Diigo Blog posted about a change to the “Diigo + Google” search box. If you have the Diigo Toolbar installed in your browser, and I know you do, go to the search box and enter a search term. Diigo now uses an auto-suggest of keywords from your Diigo “My Tags + Search History” plus “Goolge Suggest“. When the results appear, your Google results will display in the left column and any [...]

When I opened my Inbox this morning, there was a message from AppJet Inc., the creators of EtherPad. I have written about this online tool in two previous posts. Anyway, AppJet has been acquired by Google and will continue to develop their real-time collaboration tool by joining the Google Wave team. So, as an EtherPad user, I was sent an invitation to get started with Google Wave! I had applied to get an invitation to Google [...]

A Thin Line is an MTV campaign developed to “empower individuals to identify, respond to, and stop the spread of digital abuse”. The campaign is built on the understanding that there’s a “thin line” between what may begin as a harmless joke and result in  something that could have a serious impact on someone’s life. The web site and video below come courtesy of  MindDump.

Google Goggles

I was watching CNBC last week when I caught a show titled, Inside the Mind of Google. I happened to tune in during a segment about a new Google technology named “Google Goggles” which allows users to take a picture and search the web for more information / content based on the visual image. Check it out… I thought this was amazing and could be very useful for me! I love to travel and such [...]

New GDocs Search/Export Features

Google Docs has added some new features that will make my life easier. First, they have made an adjustment to allow sorting of documents by relevance. Yeah! Previously, search results were organized by the “last modified date.” Additionally, searches will be improved with automatic stemming and synonyms. So when I search for a document with the term “web site” it will also look for “web sites, website, websites”, etc. Second, exporting your documents is now [...]

Plagiarism | Resources

One of the primary concerns expressed by educators in this electronic, Google age, is the ease with which students can simply search, find, copy, paste and submit information as if it was their own. Not a surprise then that a number of web sites exist now with the purpose of tracking down those that refuse to cite or give credit when it is due. Listed below are a few free resources that might come in [...]
