Foxmarks the Spot!

I have always used multiple computers but only recently has the need to access my bookmarks from different computers become critical. Previously I would export my bookmarks from Firefox on one computer and transfer and upload the file to the next computer. Although it was not a complicated process for me, it was time consuming and I am all about efficiency. Also, the constant copying and uploading presented the danger of moving the wrong file and losing some of my precious saved web sites.

The solution to my dilemma? foxmarks!

foxmarks is an Firefox add-on that allows users to upload their bookmarks to a server and then synchronize across multiple computers.

The process is simple. First, install the Firefox web browser if you are not using it already. Then install the foxmarks add-on. There is a simple wizard that will guide you through the set up process, during which you will create a user name and password.

Once your account is created, your bookmarks will be uploaded to the foxmarks server. If nothing else, having your bookmarks saved there gives you a back up in case your computer should crash and your data is lost.

Finally, install Firefox and foxmarks on any other computer on which you want to access your bookmarks. If you choose, you can set your bookmarks to synchronize automatically.

I have been moving back and forth between computers seamlessly over the last couple of days with access to all bookmarks on both computers. I love it!  If you are in a similar position, I would strongly encourage you to consider this solution!
