Connecting Our Passions
This morning, I attended Breakfast Speaker Series on the first day of the 2007 T+L Conference. T+L stands for “technology plus learning” and the conference is sponsored by the National School Boards Association. The featured speaker was Will Richardson, a former teacher at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, N.J, and author of of the book, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms. I had the opportunity to listen to Will speak before at the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference in 2006, have read his book, and was looking forward to the presentation. As expected, he laid out a strong argument for “why the read/write web changes everything.”
Of course I found myself in agreement with his presentation, but what struck me the most during his talk was this statement, because of the read/write web “we can connect around our passions in ways we never have before.” This is exactly the purpose of this site – to connect teachers interested in using technology to improve instruction and learning. This is my passion. This is why I left my own high school social studies classroom for the opportunity to work with other teachers in their classrooms. This is why I am posting on this site.
Hopefully, if you have found your way to this site, you also share the same passion. I hope you will join me on this journey, and through our connections, we can do something to change everything.
